Takashi Furuyama became a Christian in 1969, and was baptized by the Rev. Eiji Suehiro at the Los Angeles Holiness Church. Following his conversion experience, he studied at the Tokyo Biblical Seminary in Tokyo, Japan, and at Azusa Pacific University, in southern California. He pastored the Japanese speaking department of the San Gabriel Valley Japanese Christian Church for eleven years. He was invited to serve at the San Lorenzo Japanese Christian Church, followed by his appointment to the West Los Angeles Holiness Church where he has served since 1997
For Brian, serving at West LA Holiness Church is the reunion of a relationship that began 41 years ago. Shortly after their graduation from UCLA in 1974, Brian and Emiko Nakamura moved into an apartment in the Sawtelle area of West Los Angeles. Within a month, they began to attend West LA Holiness and were quickly welcomed into the church family. In 1980, while a student at Fuller Theological Seminary, Brian was asked to serve as a Student Pastor, and in 1984 became the English Speaking Pastor for the church. He served in that capacity until being transferred to the San Diego Japanese Christian Church in 1987, where he served until 2004. From 2007 until 2014, Brian and Emiko hosted a house church at their home in Chula Vista, California. Brian can be sinfully loyal to UCLA athletics, and yet loves USC fans with the love of Jesus.
